Treating Sleep Disorders? – Seek Help from Ayurveda

Sleep is very important for every human being. The inability to sleep is commonly known as sleep disorders. Some people suffer from sleep disturbances for a short period which can last between one night and one to two weeks while some people suffer from acute sleep disorders that can last between one and six months. There are some people who suffer from chronic sleep disorders for indefinite days. The medical term for such sleep disorders is called insomnia.

According to Ayurveda, sleep disorder is caused due to imbalance of Vata dosha. This can happen with fear, stress, anxiety, tension, restlessness, strain, going to bed on empty stomach, eating large meals before going to bed, intake of certain drugs, excess intake of caffeine, and illness. These reasons can affect the nervous system and lead you to suffer from sleep disorders.

There are several drugs to induce sleep. However, the use of such drugs can cause certain other health disorders, if taken for long period. Ayurveda recommends natural remedies to treat your sleep disorders. The benefits of Ayurveda are that it cures and prevents all the ailments and also treats sleep disorders without any harmful side effects.

Chamomile: This herb has a calming and relaxing effect that promotes undisturbed sleep for a long period. Before you go to bed, drink chamomile tea that will put you to sleep quickly. You can also use dried chamomile flowers by filling it in your pillow case. Use this pillow to have a good night sleep.

Lavender oil: Lavender can be used in any form to have a good undisturbed sleep. This herb is safe to use for long term. It is a good medicine for the people who suffer from chronic sleep disorders. Like chamomile, dried lavender flowers can be filled in pillow case and use it as your pillow. You can also spread a few drops of lavender oil on your bed and pillows to have a good sleep.

Sandalwood: It helps in treating stress and depression. It has a cooling and sedative effect that promotes sleep very effectively. It is also beneficial in treating mucus discharge.

Valerian: It is one of the most effective medicines in Ayurveda for treating insomnia. If you are not able to sleep due to emotional imbalance, this herb helps in reducing the mental stress and promotes sleep.

Ashwagandha: This herb is widely used in Ayurveda for the treatment of nervous system. It relaxes and calms the mind which is very essential to have an undisturbed sleep. It is used as sedative to promote sleep.

Other natural herbs that help in promoting sleep are Brahmi, Jatamansi, Bhringaraja, and Sankhapushpi. You will very soon understand the benefits of Ayurveda by using these natural herbs to get rid of your sleep disorder problems as well as many other health problems.
