A sound sleep is very essential for everyone to be healthy. People who suffer from insomnia feel less energetic throughout the day. Sleep is very important for every human being. The inability to sleep is commonly known as sleep disorders. Some people suffer from sleep disturbances for a short period which can last between one night and one to two weeks while some people suffer from acute sleep disorders that can last between one and six months. There are some people who suffer from chronic sleep disorders for indefinite days. The medical term for such sleep disorders is called insomnia.

According to Ayurveda, sleep disorder is caused due to imbalance of Vata dosha. This can happen with fear, stress, anxiety, tension, restlessness, strain, going to bed on empty stomach, eating large meals before going to bed, intake of certain drugs, excess intake of caffeine, and illness. These reasons can affect the nervous system and lead you to suffer from sleep disorders.

There are several drugs to induce sleep. However, the use of such drugs can cause certain other health disorders, if taken for long period.
