Ulcer is a wound that occurs in stomach, duodenum or esophagus; this is jointly known as ‘peptic ulcer’. The ulcer in the stomach is known as ‘gastric ulcer’. When it occurs in the duodenum, it is known as ‘duodenal ulcer’. Continuous heart burn, upper abdominal pain, and hyperacidity are the early signs of ulcer. It can be very painful, especially after eating food.

Peptic ulcer can be acute and chronic based on the severity of the health condition. Acute ulcers occur suddenly in the digestive system. This type of ulcer happens when a person eats spicy food and acidic food in excess, skipping meals, untimely eating habits, and overeating. It can be cured in short duration, however, you should be cautious to prevent it in future.

Chronic ulcer is a condition that lasts for long. The symptoms of ulcer are upper abdominal pain, burning sensation and pain in the stomach after eating every time, indigestion, belching, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

Improper diet, overstress, sleeplessness, excess intake of spicy food, caffeine, alcohol, and smoking can be the some of the major causes for ulcer. Intake of certain foods like bananas, milk, almond, lime, amla, calcium enriched foods, fresh fruits and vegetables can reduce the symptoms of ulcer. There are some useful Ayurvedic herbs that help to cure ulcer.

Amla: It is used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat several ailments including digestive problems. It has rich source of Vitamin C that can absorb all the excess acid from the stomach. Its laxative properties clear the stomach.

Shatavari: This Ayurvedic herb is very effective in treating hyperacidity. The powder of its root is very effective in treating chronic peptic ulcers.

Bay leaves: It is useful in treating gastric ulcers. Bay leaves have astringent, carminative, digestive, and diuretic properties.

Bael fruit: It is very useful in treating problems related to the digestive system. It is very effective in curing heartburn, hyperacidity and gastric ulcer.

Licorice: It gives relief from irritation caused due to excess acid in the inner lining of the stomach. It is a very effective medicine in treating stomach ulcers. Soak its dried root overnight and consume it in the morning.

Prevention is a better cure. Sudden change in the lifestyle can also cause the early symptoms of hyperacidity. It is better to take precaution whenever you experience the signs like heartburn and acidity in the stomach. If ignored, it can lead to the stage where you will have to go through strong and tough medications.
