Hypertension or high blood pressure is a common health problem suffered by many people around the globe. At least one person in each family suffers from hypertension. When the blood pressure goes up, the heart works harder to pump blood to the other parts of the body.

There are no visible symptoms that show the signs of high blood pressure. Therefore, it is very important to have your blood pressure checked regularly. A normal blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg. You should be cautious if it reaches 130/80 mm Hg which means pre-hypertension. If it reaches higher than 140/90 mm Hg, then it is considered as hypertension or high blood pressure.

Many people ignore the problem of high blood pressure as the symptoms are invisible. It is known as ‘silent killer’. The risk factors that are involved with high blood pressure are cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, and stroke.

When high blood pressure is unnoticed or ignored, it can lead to serious problems. Serious hypertension shows symptoms like headache at the back of the head and neck, chronic fatigue, improper vision, nausea, and tinnitus (hearing a ring or buzz in the ear). Fast and irregular heartbeats, frustration, anxiety, irritability, fear, insomnia, and uncontrollable anger can also be the cause of pre-hypertension or hypertension.

Diet plays a major role in preventing high blood pressure. You should maintain normal weight of your body. Ayurveda recommends having a balanced diet, regular exercise, yoga, and meditation to reduce hypertension. However, there are certain habits that can cause high blood pressure. Ayurveda strictly prohibits the use of alcohol, smoking, caffeine, fatty food, and excess salt. If you are obese and have high cholesterol, then the chances of hypertension are high.

A well-balanced diet is the major part of the Ayurvedic treatment for any ailments. For treating high blood pressure, a proper diet should be followed.

  1. Have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  2. Have foods that are low in fat and calories.
  3. Have fibrous food.
  4. Reduce the quantity of salt in food.
  5. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking.
  6. Drink plenty of water.

As a part of Ayurvedic treatment for curing high blood pressure naturally, you can use Ayurvedic herbs such as Brahmi, Aloe Vera, Valerian, Garlic, Hibiscus, Arjuna, Alfalfa, and Guggulu. These are very effective in reducing hypertension or high blood pressure.

However, there are certain herbs that are risky for the people with hypertension. When herbs like rosemary and licorice are taken in high doses, they can aggravate the condition of hypertension or pre-hypertension. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to have proper medication.
