Ayurvedic Herbs and Remedies for Alopecia
‘Alopecia’ means hair loss that results in small circular patches or baldness on the scalp. This disease is suffered by men, women, and even children. Alopecia can take place anywhere on the body, however, it mostly affects the scalp.
There are male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness. It starts appearing in men around the age of thirty. It is hereditary and can happen to any man if there is anyone with baldness in his family. Diet also plays a major role in hair loss.
Female pattern baldness is not as bad as male pattern baldness. However, it is bad enough to cause low self-esteem and depression for a woman suffering female pattern baldness. This kind of hair loss is caused in women mainly due to hormonal imbalance. Hormones shrink hair follicles preventing the growth of new hair. Women worry the most with hair loss. With proper diet, hair care, and medications, women will be able to have new wonderful hair.
There could be many other reasons related to your excess hair loss. Stress, anxiety, tension, depression, lack of sleep, improper diet, dandruff, hair straightening, using hair dye and other chemicals can aggravate the problem of hair loss. Certain health problems such as pregnancy, hormonal imbalance, surgery, diabetes, heavy doses of drugs, and fungal infections can cause hair loss. Therefore, it is important to find out the exact cause of your hair loss. There are many Ayurvedic herbs that help in promoting hair growth.
Cleaning the hair: If the hair is not cleaned or rinsed properly, it can affect the scalp, and cause itching and infections. Shampoos and soaps have strong chemicals which can also be the cause of your hair loss. Use mild herbal shampoo that has Ayurvedic herbs such as Amla, Brahmi, Aloe Vera, Henna, Neem, Lemon, as ingredients. You can use Ayurvedic herbs like Hibiscus, Neem, Shikakai, or Amla to wash your hair. Ayurvedic herbs not only clean the hair and scalp effectively but also promote hair growth.
Coloring the hair: Do not use hair color products that have too many chemicals in them. This could be the major reason for your hair loss. You can use Ayurvedic herb like Henna that colors your hair naturally and also prevents premature graying. Amla also is good for stopping premature graying. You can also add Amla to Henna powder to color your hair.
Massaging scalp: Oil massage is very beneficial in hair loss. You should massage slowly with your finger tips. You can use almond oil, coconut oil, mustard oil, or olive oil to massage your scalp. Oils made from Ayurvedic herbs are Arnica oil, Amla oil, Brahmi oil, and Bhringaraja oil. You can apply any of these oils, and massage your scalp and roots of the hair to promote hair growth.
Dandruff treatment: Dandruff is one of the major causes for hair loss. Use Henna, Neem, and Lemon for getting rid of dandruff.
Ayurveda also recommends consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, curd, milk, buttermilk, and foods rich in Vitamin A and C. You should drink plenty of water. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and air pollution. Do regular exercise, yoga, and meditation which are also wonderful Ayurvedic remedies for treating hair loss.
